κρείττων (kreittōn) — Adjective
From the Greek κρείττων (kreittōn), the comparative of kratys (strong): better, superior, more excellent. Semantic force: The comparative form assumes a genuine standard of comparison. Hebrews never argues that the old covenant was bad, only that it was surpassed by something stronger. Theological depth: The letter measures superiority by access. What makes the new covenant better is not aesthetic or emotional but functional — it brings the worshipper near, which the law by design could not.
