זָדוֹן (zadon) — Noun, masculine
From the Hebrew זָדוֹן (zadon), from zid (to boil up, to seethe, to act insolently): arrogance, presumption. Semantic force: The root image is of water boiling over — something rising past its proper limit. Pride in Hebrew is not primarily a high opinion but an overstepping. Theological depth: Obadiah says the pride of the heart deceived its owner. Of all the sins Scripture names, this is the one described as lying to the person who has it, which is why it is the hardest to detect from inside.
