The Faith More Precious Than Gold
“That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:”
(KJV)
Peter values the tested faith above the gold that perishes, though gold is what the furnace is usually for.
The Chain from TribulationNew Testament
“And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope:”
(KJV)
Paul traces the sequence: tribulation works patience, patience experience, and experience hope.
The Trier of HeartsOld Testament
“The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the LORD trieth the hearts.”
(KJV)
Solomon moves the furnace from the workshop to the heart, and names God as the one tending it.
Shift your attitude toward current hardships today. Refuse to wallow in self-pity, and ask God to produce proven endurance through the trial.
Passage:
Focus: Look at verse 4: "let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing." Endurance leads to spiritual maturity.
Ask yourself: Can you name one good thing that came out of your hardest year? If not yet, that is allowed. Ask God rather than concluding anything.
Merciful Father, count it all joy when I fall into divers temptations, knowing the trying of my faith works patience. Give me that perspective by Your Holy Spirit when the heat rises today. In the name of the Lord Jesus, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross. Amen.
