פֶּתַח (petach) — Noun
From the Hebrew פֶּתַח (petach), from pathach (to open): an opening, doorway, or entrance. Semantic force: The noun denotes the aperture itself rather than the act. Some render it "unfolding," but the architectural sense — a door giving access — best fits the psalm's imagery of light entering a space. Theological depth: Illumination is tied to admission rather than to aptitude. Scripture assumes that its light operates upon entry, which is why the simple are named as its beneficiaries rather than its exceptions.
