“Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.”
(KJV)
Luke adds the detail Matthew omits: he digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock.
The Rock That FollowedNew Testament
“And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.”
(KJV)
Paul identifies the rock in the wilderness with Christ Himself.
He Only Is My RockOld Testament
“He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved.”
(KJV)

O LORD my rock, I have heard these sayings often and done less with them than I would like to admit, and Your Son likens the one who does them to a wise man who built his house upon a rock. Make me a doer and not a hearer only, by the power of Your Holy Spirit. In the name of the Lord Jesus, the sure foundation. Amen.
