καταλλαγή (katallagē) — Noun, feminine
From the Greek καταλλαγή (katallagē), from katallassō (to exchange, to change thoroughly): reconciliation, the restoration of a broken relation. Semantic force: The root is commercial — the exchanging of one currency for another — and the relational sense grows from it: a change of relation so complete that the standing between the parties is now other than it was. Theological depth: In Paul's usage God is always the reconciler and never the reconciled. He is not persuaded into peace by the sinner; He initiates it, accomplishes it in Christ, and then commissions the reconciled to carry the announcement.
