יִרְאָה (yirah) — Noun, feminine
From the Hebrew יִרְאָה (yirah), from yare (to fear): fear, reverence, awe. Semantic force: The same noun covers terror before danger and reverence before majesty. Hebrew does not separate them into different words, which is the first clue that the biblical idea is not reverence with the fear removed. Theological depth: The fear of the LORD is repeatedly called a beginning — of wisdom, of knowledge — never a stage to be outgrown. It is the posture in which a creature can receive instruction at all, and its absence is treated not as immaturity but as folly.
