The Brightness of GloryNew Testament
“Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;”
(KJV)
He is the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person — radiance, not reflection.
The Father SeenNew Testament
“Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?”
(KJV)
Christ makes the claim directly to Philip: he that hath seen me hath seen the Father.
The Image in Which We Were MadeOld Testament
“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.”
(KJV)
Man was made in the image of God, which is why the perfect Image restores rather than replaces our humanity.
Fix your gaze on Jesus in Scripture today to behold the true character of Almighty God.
Passage:
Focus: Ponder verse 15: Christ embodies the exact image of the invisible Father.
Ask yourself: Picture how you imagine God feels about you today. Now test that picture against how Christ actually treated people in the Gospels. Where the two differ, which one have you been trusting?
Immortal, invisible God our Father, Your Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature. Let Your Holy Spirit turn my knowledge of Him into worship today. I pray in the name of the Lord Jesus, the express image of Your person. Amen.
