יָד (yad) — Noun
From the Hebrew יָד (yad), meaning hand, and by common extension power, control, or possession. Semantic force: The word regularly stands for the authority exercised by the hand rather than the limb itself. To be in someone's yad is to be in their custody, for protection or judgment. Theological depth: Scripture uses the same image for God's keeping of His people and His sovereignty over nations. The believer's security rests on the identity of the hand, not on his own grip.
