ὑποτάσσω (hypotassō) — Verb
From the Greek ὑποτάσσω (hypotassō), a compound of hypo (under) and tassō (to arrange in order): to place in ordered subjection. Grammatical force: Peter uses the aorist passive participle. The subjection is not an ongoing struggle being gradually won but a completed act performed upon the powers by another. They did not consent; they were arranged. Theological depth: The verb is military and administrative rather than emotional. Angels, authorities, and powers have been formally ranked beneath Christ. Whatever spiritual opposition remains is real but structurally demoted — insurgency inside a settled jurisdiction, not a contest between equals.
